Before you pay

  • Check the birth year. Divisions are tied to birth year. A school grade alone will not tell you which one to choose.
  • Look at the commitment. Ask about practice and game frequency, assigned rinks, evaluations and travel before committing.
  • Read the total cost. Registration is only part of it; gear and travel add to the season cost. Check refund terms directly with GMHA.
  • Get the paperwork ready. New families may need a Hockey Canada profile and a parent course. GMHA’s registration FAQ sets out the steps.
  • Check gear before the first skate. Use the GMHA equipment list and ask about fit and program-specific requirements.

Choosing between house league and rep

House league gives your child a team, practices and games without a rep-team selection process. A child interested in rep or an advanced program should read the evaluation rules early. GMHA says some evaluations use separate sign-ups, and a player hoping to fall back to house league should secure that spot separately. GMHA listed evaluation skates on the weekends of September 26 and October 4, 2026.

Read a child’s first season for a first-week checklist. If your child wants to skate casually first, try public skating.
